There are three factors to consider when thinking about the best key for you.
Transponder Keys: Most vehicles since around 2000 have transponder keys as a standard security feature. If your car is newer, it likely uses a transponder key.
Remote Key Fobs: Many modern vehicles come with remote key fobs that may also include transponder technology. If your car has keyless entry or push-to-start features, it probably uses a remote fob.
Physical Appearance: Inspect your key. Transponder keys usually have a plastic head that contains the chip, while traditional metal keys do not. If your key has a visible chip or is thicker, it may be a transponder key.
Fob Features: If your key includes buttons for locking/unlocking doors or starting the engine remotely, it is likely a remote key fob. Some fobs also contain a transponder chip for starting the car.
If you can insert the key but the car won't start, it might indicate an issue with the transponder chip not communicating with the vehicle's immobilizer system. It can also mean the battery is not working properly and needs to be replaced.

There are differences between key fobs and transponder keys. With this understanding, you are better able to distinguish between car security and functionality.
A transponder key contains a microchip that communicates with the vehicle's ignition system. It is essential for starting the engine, as the car will not start without the correct transponder signal.
A remote key fob, also known as a key fob or fob, allows users to lock and unlock their vehicle remotely. This key does not contain the technology, which is a specific chip, to start the engine unless it is integrated with a transponder chip.
The third type is a hybrid and is called a remote transponder key. This key combines both security and functionality into one device, known as a remote transponder key. With this key you have the remote locking/unlocking feature plus the transponder chip necessary for starting the vehicle.
